God's world is filled with the marvelous work of His hands. This science textbook, Investigating God's Orderly World, Book One is designed to guide you in a systematic study of God's world. A diligent, prayerful use of this book should help you:
A few statements of admonition about the use of this textbook will be good to consider at the beginning of your study. As you read, remember that this is not a storybook. Unlike storybooks, the understanding of every sentence and word is important. Therefore, train your mind to be alert, avoid distracting thoughts, and concentrate on what is read. A glossary is provided in the back of the book to be a quick reference for words you do not understand. You may need to use a dictionary for some words.
The organization of each unit is designed to help you gain and retain as many facts and concepts as possible. Each unit is introduced with a full-page picture. Try to decide why the author chose the particular photograph. What attitudes, impressions, and lessons can be learned about the subject from the picture? Opposite each unit title page is another introductory page including three features. Searching for Truth presents direction from the Scripture on the proper attitude to have as you study the unit. Searching for Understanding is intended to help you consider both what you already know and what you do not know about the study before you. Searching for Meaning is your vocabulary list. Each word on this list is italicized where it is discussed in the text and is included in the glossary. You should learn the spelling and definition of each word.
Each unit is divided into sections with Study Exercises for each section. Write out a complete answer for each exercise. You may use your book or other reference books to do these exercises. Putting the answer in your own words is much more valuable than copying a statement from the text. Study the illustrations carefully. The illustrations were chosen to help you gain a more direct contact with the concept being taught. However, the most direct way to learn scientific concepts is from God's world itself. You are encouraged to perform all the suggested experiments in the text. The Additional Activities are offered as suggested projects to enrich your experience with God's Orderly World.
What you learn may be forgotten if it is not reviewed. The Review Exercises at the end of each unit are divided into two parts. The Review of Vocabulary is a summary paragraph of the unit. Directions for doing this exercise are included in Unit One. The Multiple Choice is to help you review the concepts learned and to challenge your understanding of how these concepts are applied. If you get a perfect score on the Review Exercises without help, then you indeed must have an understanding of the science concepts in the unit.
Do not become proud of your knowledge and understanding, because it is a gift from God, and with knowledge goes the great responsibility to use it to the honor and glory of God. Also remember that God will judge you for your stewardship. He has promised an awful place of torment for those who fail to exalt Him in their lives and knowledge. But rejoice, God has also prepared a new heaven and a new earth that contain marvels of His creative power that will transcend even the wonders of this world.
