Rod and Staff Social Studies

We believe that all nationalities and all peoples of the world are the descendants of the first man, Adam, who was created in the image of God; that evil and wickedness came into this world as the result of Adam's disobedience to God's commands, and through all his descendents who likewise live in rebellion against God. God's provision for our redemption is through Jesus Christ. Through Him we can have love for all and hatred toward none.

We encourage you to review Rod and Staff's social studies courses for the lower grade as well as their history/geography courses for the higher grades. Rod and Staff seeks to record the history of America and other countries in an honest and factual way, but does not glorify America or her so-called "heroes." Children ought to know history and geography, and yet be respectful to all peoples. God has provided the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ for all people everywhere.

Our Father's World is a simple course that introduces and explains basic geographical terms—continent, ocean, lake, city, state, province, and country. Basic surface features are discussed—mountains, hills, deserts, valleys, and plains. The purpose and structure of globes and maps are taught. Twelve of the 30 lessons are stories about children around the world. Each story is cast in the setting of a child's surroundings and activities on a March day.

Understanding Our Community gives the student an introduction to the community and shows how various organizations and public services operate. The goal is to foster an appreciation for the services offered and to help the student to act responsibly. Most lessons are presented in story form so that the student learns through the eyes of the main character as he observes his community. The pupil's book has color pictures where color is important.
